Our History
About
In May 2011, Advent Lutheran Church officially began its journey as a new congregation. This wasn't just a simple beginning, but the culmination of countless hours of passionate dialogue, thoughtful conversations, and dedicated effort from three Lutheran congregations in the Spokane Valley. Specifically, Good Shepherd and Christ Lutheran made the faithful decision to consolidate, uniting their strengths and spirits to form what is now Advent.
Our motto, "Called by God's grace to love and serve," is at the heart of everything we do. We are deeply rooted in the rich Lutheran tradition, yet we are also committed to remaining relevant and responsive to the needs of today's world. We cherish our time together, and in all our endeavors, we strive to share the transformative love of Jesus.

Our dedicated staff is part of the heartbeat of our community. Included among them is our compassionate director and assistant director of our Child Center, who create a welcoming space for families and children. We believe every individual plays an essential role in our mission, and our staff exemplifies the values we hold dear. Rev.Matt Larson
Pastor Matt came to Spokane Valley August 2006 and loves being back in the Spokane area. He graduated from Washington State University (Go Cougs!), and attended seminary at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA.
He has been a Pastor for over two decades, ministering in rural and town & country churches. He has been involved with music, youth ministry, and campus ministry, and also has been involved with ecumenical ministries on a local and national level.
Pastor Matt loves worship that is both traditional and spontaneous, and also contemporary in a way that says, “That makes sense, today!”
He was the Pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (one of the consolidated congregations of Advent) and has now become the first called Pastor of Advent Lutheran Church.
